Activating Windows Servers

This article covers activating Windows Server Standard 2008, 2012 and 2016 on our vCloud platform.

As of April 2021 Hosted Network has decommissioned the Windows Server 2008 KMS Server, this is due to that version of windows having been marked End-of-Life in Mid January 2020.

We cannot provide licencing for Windows Server 2008, if you are still using that version we strongly recommend upgrading to a newer version.

To activate Windows Server, open command prompt as Administrator and enter one of the following commands:

  • Server Standard 2008 - cscript %systemroot%/System32/slmgr.vbs /skms 103.243.110.91

  • Server Standard 2012 - cscript %systemroot%/System32/slmgr.vbs /skms 103.243.110.89

  • Server Standard 2016 - cscript %systemroot%/System32/slmgr.vbs /skms 103.243.110.101

  • Server Standard 2019 - cscript %systemroot%/System32/slmgr.vbs /skms 103.243.110.101

  • Server Standard 2022 - cscript %systemroot%/System32/slmgr.vbs /skms 103.243.110.101

Then enter the following command to attempt activation:

  • cscript %systemroot%/System32/slmgr.vbs /ato

If successful you should get a message appear saying that it successfully activated, if you get any other message or error and it fails to activate please email support@hostednetwork.com.au with the error as either text or a screenshot.

These KMS Servers will only activate if the external IP is a Hosted Network IP address. If your external IP is different (routing through a VPN to another location) then you will need to contact support@hostednetwork.com.au for assistance
