How to assign and un-assign a user from a VDI

This article covers how to assign and un-assign a user from a VDI within the Horizon DaaS Administrator portal, this is useful if you're migrating them to a more up-to-date VDI or they're simply having issues with their existing VDI.
If it is a new user then you don't necessarily need to carry out this task, the system will automatically assign them to the next VDI that has no user assigned.
The Administrator portal can be accessed by simply putting /admin after the URL, e.g. the admin portal for contoso.anywhereaccess.com.au is https://contoso.anywhereaccess.com.au/admin
All DaaS environments have their own unique login portal and the authentication for the portals is managed by the Partners Active-Directory server, Hosted Network do not have direct access to manage the authentication for the Horizon DaaS Administrator portal.
Un-assigning a user from a VDI does NOT remove any files or programs they may have created/installed under their account whilst assigned to that VDI. You may need to do some clean up if you wish to assign the VDI to another user
This guide does not account for creating users, it expects that the user has already been created in Active-Directory prior to attempting to assign them to a VDI
Follow the steps below to assign an existing user to an existing VDI, if you haven't created the user of VDI yet you will need to do that before proceeding with the below steps.
Step 1. Login to the Horizon DaaS Administration portal
Step 2. Click on the "Assignments" button in the menu along the left side of the web portal
Step 3. Click on the name of the desktop pool/assignment that has the VDI you want to assign a user to
Step 4. Click on "Desktops" at the top of the page
Step 5. Tick the box next to the VDI you want to assign a user to and then click the "Assign" button above the table of VDI (You may get a warning message if another user is already assigned, click "Continue" to proceed if you see this)
Step 6. Type in the users name in the "Active Directory Search" field, then click the appropriate user from the dropdown that appears, and then click "Save" to assign the user to the VDI
Follow the steps below to unassign a user from a VDI, freeing it up to be either assigned to a new user or to be deleted.
Step 1. Login to the Horizon DaaS Administration portal
Step 2. Click on the "Assignments" button in the menu along the left side of the web portal
Step 3. Click on the name of the desktop pool/assignment that has the VDI you want to unassign a user to
Step 4. Click on "Desktops" at the top of the page
Step 5. Tick the box next to the VDI you want to unassign a user from and click "More" then click "Unassign" from the dropdown
Step 7. In the window that appears tick the box next to the user you want to unassign and then click on "Save" to remove them from the VDI
