Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)
To make understand the differences between NBN technologies, this article will run you through the high level details. For details on the technologies please see the NBN website.

Important Notes

  • Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) uses the existing cable network / “Pay TV” network.
  • Only TC4 services are available on HFC
  • Business Grade Symmetrical TC2 are not available
  • NBN provide a NTD with all HFC services however a standard Ethernet Router is still required.
    • Only a single service can be installed on a HFC NTD. Additional services will need new lines installed at additional cost.
  • Installation of HFC services typically require an NBN contractor to visit the premise to complete the installation and as such take longer to activate than other technologies.
    • Expect between 1-2 weeks depending on NBN contractor availability.
