# Telstra Mobile Coverage - What You Need to Know

Our Telstra Mobile services run on the **Telstra Wholesale Network**, and it's worth understanding how this differs from Telstra's own retail coverage, especially when troubleshooting a service that seems to have no signal in an area where a Telstra retail phone works fine.

**Wholesale vs. Retail Coverage**

Telstra actually operates **two separate mobile network footprints**:

* **Telstra Retail** — available only to direct Telstra and Boost Mobile customers, covering approximately **99.7% of the Australian population**.
* **Telstra Wholesale** — used by resellers (including us), covering approximately **98.8% of the Australian population** and over **1.7 million square kilometres** of the Australian landmass.

While the difference sounds small, it means there are specific locations, particularly regional or fringe coverage areas, where a Telstra retail SIM may get signal, but a Telstra Wholesale-based SIM (like ours) may not.

**How to Check Coverage for Your Address**

Before raising a fault for "no signal" or "poor signal," check our actual network footprint using the Telstra Wholesale coverage map:

<https://www.telstrawholesale.com.au/products/mobiles/coverage.html>

This lets you search by address to see predicted outdoor coverage in that specific area.

**Important Notes**

* Coverage maps show **predicted outdoor coverage only**, they are a guide, not a guarantee. Actual experience can vary due to terrain, buildings, device, and local conditions.
* If your address shows coverage on the map but you're still experiencing issues, please reach out to our Support Team for further investigation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://kb.hostednetwork.com.au/support/services/connectivity/lte-services/telstra-mobile-data/telstra-mobile-coverage-what-you-need-to-know.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
