Changing VM hardware
Adding CPU, memory, disks, network adapters and CD/DVD drives to an existing machine.
Edit Hardware is where you resize an existing machine. Everything you set when the machine was built can be changed here, and you can add extra disks, network adapters and CD/DVD drives.
Before you start
Impersonate the tenant administrator for the customer
Power the machine off. Most hardware changes cannot be applied while it is running
Check the Virtual Data Center has enough spare CPU, memory or storage for the increase
How to change the hardware
Open the virtual machine
Click Actions then Edit Hardware
Change the values you need under General Configuration, Storage Configuration, Network Configuration or CD/DVD Drive
Use Add New Device to add another Storage, Network or CD/DVD Drive
Click Apply
What you can change
CPU sockets and cores, and the CPU model
Memory in GiB
BIOS type, TPM, the QEMU guest agent and whether the machine starts automatically at boot
Disk size and storage policy for each disk. Disks can be grown but not shrunk
The network each adapter connects to, the NIC model and whether it is connected
