Users and Roles

Creating custom roles for your own staff and controlling what they can do.

User Roles controls who in your own team can do what in MultiPortal. It has two tabs: Roles, where permission sets are defined, and Users, where your staff accounts live.

This is for your reseller staff. Accounts for the customer are created inside the tenant instead.

The built in roles

  • Reseller is the primary account role and has full access to your tenants and Virtual Data Centers

  • Reseller - Read Only can see everything but change nothing, which suits service desk and reporting staff

  • Both are marked System Role and cannot be edited or deleted

How to create a custom role

  • Click User Roles in the left hand menu and stay on the Roles tab

  • Click Create Role

  • Enter a Role Name and a Role Description that explains who the role is for

  • Expand the permission groups and tick what the role needs. The groups are General, Administration, Reseller Management, Tenant Management, VDC Management and VM Management

  • Click Create New Role

Adding a user to your team

  • Click User Roles then the Users tab

  • Add the person and assign them the role that matches what they need to do

  • Give people the least access that lets them do their job, and use Reseller - Read Only wherever it is enough

  • Remember Impersonation Permission is what allows a user to work inside a tenant, so include it for anyone doing customer builds
