MultiPortal is sold under two models. This article explains the difference and how to tell which one you are on.

MultiPortal is a multi tenant platform and Hosted Network sells it two ways. The model you are on decides where your resource pool sits and how much of the build you do yourself.

vDC pool model

You buy a pool of CPU, memory and storage that is attached to a specific Virtual Data Center. Hosted Network creates the Virtual Data Center and applies the pool to it.

You still sign in at reseller level, so you can open that Virtual Data Center and any other one under your reseller, but you cannot create new Virtual Data Centers yourself.

Raise a request with Hosted Network support when you need:

• a new Virtual Data Center

• the size of an existing resource pool changed

• a Virtual Data Center in another data centre location

Reseller pool model

You buy the pool at reseller level, so the resources sit on your own reseller account. You then divide them up yourself: create tenants, create Virtual Data Centers under them, and allocate CPU, memory and storage to each one from your pool.

Raise a request with Hosted Network support when you need more resource added to your reseller pool, or a new data centre location enabled.

How to tell which model you are on

Sign in to MultiPortal and check the following:

• On the Dashboard, look at the Quota Usage card. Under model 2 it shows your reseller allocation for tenants, VDCs and VMs. Under model 1 these read Unlimited, because the limit is applied on the Virtual Data Center instead

• Open one of your customers from the Tenants page. Under model 2 there is a New Virtual Data Center button. Under model 1 there is not

What is the same in both models

Everything from the Virtual Data Center down works the same way in both models. Creating and managing virtual machines, networks, snapshots, backups and user roles is identical, so the rest of these articles apply to you whichever model you are on.
